The Ocean Swallows a Fool
Sharing an oceanic perspective of the tarot's fool
posted on: 2025.11.17
Dear friends,
Last saturday I had great fun at Greta, Lisbon’s feminist bookshop. Carolina Carinhas’s “writing with the tarot” workshop focused on the Fool’s card and its journey through the major arcana. Let me share my brief oceanic fool’s journey with you.
The ocean speaks to the fool:
Come to me. Feed me your soul. I want to sense your vibration resonating inside me, dispersing across my waters and witness your becoming. Become ocean. Become me. Become a larger self where smaller selves swim and float and drag.
Let my waters soften your fragmented shards and turn them into sediment. The soul of the ocean houses many souls. Let my abyssal self embrace you, become darkness, bring light. Dark waters have many shades and shapes, even if you can’t see them you might perceive them as they vibrate. They’re alive.
Because I shared the above text out loud in the workshop, I later reflected on how little of my writing I share. Although I enjoy writing, I don’t consider myself a writer, hence I didn’t think it could have value. But just like there is value in expressive drawings that don’t necessarily show technical mastery, I thought that maybe it’s okay for me to share what I write.
Even if it might be clumsy, it’s a form of expression, it conveys something of mine. Sharing this hopefully creates an entry for connection. And lately I feel like I’ve been starved for meaningful connections. I’ve been wallowing in my own deep dark waters for far too long and I’m ready to reemerge.
So thank you for reading, dear friend.
See you in the next one!
